INTRODUCTION / PLAYGROUP-KINDERGARTEN 2 / EXTRA-CURRICULUM / ACTIVITIES

curriculum

Our curriculum takes into account children’s needs to explore, play and learn.  As educators, we understand that children will respond positively or negatively, very much directly as a result of our actions. The pattern of life responses is very much based on the principle of “Cause and Effect”.
We therefore appreciate that:

EVALUATION
Periodic evaluation of learning milestones help teachers
to pace, modify, plan and execute lessons so that every
child achieves learning to his/her best potential.  Assessment or evaluation is
a natural and essential element in learning.

Assessments are not tests. With a small teacher-student ratio, careful oberservations and a comprehensive curriculum, teachers are able to understand how the children think and what they want to know. This will also help the school to make curriculum decisions in our efforts to bring out the best in each child.

Raffles House curriculum covers depth and breadth with objective-driven milestones in the following subjects:
English and Mandarin Language Arts with optional languages (Japanese) are taught in Raffles House Preschools.  Early Introduction of Phonics and sight words (from Nursery One onwards) allow young children to read unfamiliar words from books. We have children as young as three years old who are able to read well from readers.  As a result of the comprehensive and early coverage of languages programs, our children are able to perform well when they move on to primary or elementary schools.

While Raffles House is proud of its graduands who go on to primary or elementary schools and do well in academic subjects such as English Language, Mandarin Language, Mathematics and Sciences; our ultimate goal is to inculcate in the children the values and discipline of learning and character development. It is ultimately not the marks achieved that matters the most, for we believe such an achievement is but a by-product of an enthusiastic approach in learning.

In Raffles House, we firmly believe a holistic education includes developing a character of strength and grace, instilling confidence and determination in sports and cultivating an appreciation for arts. A holistic education, must therefore meet a child’s need to learn and grow in a well balanced academic, character and social equilibrium.
